Farming Between facturies

Geeta Palaniswamy is a farmer from the village of Kovil Vali in the Tamil Nadu region of India. She bears witness to the industrialization of the area and its impact on the environment. Geeta and her family struggle daily to protect their coconut plantation, which is wedged between a ginning mill and a dye works. However, the task is daunting, as the irrigation canals carry water filled with pollutants and household waste. She is concerned about the future and wishes people would stop living beyond their means. “Farming Between Factories” by Adita Prithika Subramanian was awarded the RFI Clubs Prize at the 2020 ePOP Competition.
